The history of the bag resonates just as much as the title of this exhibition: “Sac, sac, sac. More Than a Bag.” A utilitarian, symbolic, and aesthetic object, this container has endured through the centuries and triumphed over many other accessories: fans, muffs, parasols, gloves, and hats of propriety...
Through the lens of historical and contemporary pieces—on loan from fashion and leather goods houses, collectors, the ESMOD study collection, and the Printemps archives—the exhibition “Bag, Bag, Bag. More Than a Bag” portrays the bag from every angle and in all its technical complexity. Alongside rare and exceptional pieces, a rich collection of images is paired with legal documents (patents, drawings, design registrations) and previously unpublished interviews.
The 800-square-meter space is divided into twelve sections, each exploring themes such as the luxurious and the ordinary, the familiar and the iconic, the functional and the exceptional, and the unexpected and the illusory.
In keeping with a constant commitment to the environment, the exhibition design—like all of Printemps’ architectural and staging projects—follows an eco-responsible approach. As such, the materials are either repurposed from the “Vestologie” exhibition or reusable.
